Get Estimates for Structural Survey

Are you about to carry out building works on your home or are you looking to purchase a property?  If you are about to carry out substantial works on a property, you must consider whether a structural engineer will be necessary.  If the structure of the building is going to effected by the works then a Structural Surveyor is likely to be needed to consider calculations of load bearing and to provide opinions on buildings with significant structural defects.

Structural problems can include subsidence, heave in the foundations, movement, cracking of the walls or sagging of the ceiling or the roofline.

By entering yours and the property details in the above form, will provide you with estimates and contact details of Surveyors who specialize in Structural Surveys.  At that point you can contact the expert directly to discuss your property requirements in more detail.  Before appointing a surveyor to carry out a Structural Survey you should check that the surveyor has the relevant qualifications, licences, experience and insurance to provide the level of service that you require.  There is of course no obligation to use any of the property experts that you have been introduced to.

If the problem is limited to one area and you do not require the Structural Engineer to inspect the whole building then you will only need a Specific Structural Inspection. If you would like the Structural Engineer to inspect the structure of the whole building then you will require a General Structural Inspection.  

A Specific Structural Inspection (SSI) is a visual inspection of a particular structural problem or concern, and would include any related matters. It should be noted that parts of the property not related to the specific problem may not be inspected. However, if the Engineer/Surveyor were to identify any other structural problems or concerns during the course of the inspection, these might also be noted in the report.

The report includes details of what was inspected and found. It will state whether or not there is a problem and if so, what needs to be done to rectify the problem or what further investigations may be necessary. Where repairs/remedial works, or further investigations are recommended, the report will give budget costs for these, if requested.

Before appointing a supplier and placing an order you should ensure yourself that your chosen supplier has satisfactory qualifications, accreditation, experience and insurance to provide the level of service that you require.
